Exciting Progress at Yuma Proving Grounds for the AMEP Program
We are thrilled to announce that the Advanced Mobility Experimental Prototype (AMEP) has recently completed successful testing at Yuma Proving Grounds, following last year’s achievements at Camp Grayling. In collaboration with the U.S. Army’s Ground Vehicle Systems Center (GVSC) and Cummins, this phase of testing has further validated our efforts to optimize AMEP’s powerpack and control systems to meet extreme mobility metrics. The rigorous testing at Yuma involved navigating challenging cross-country terrain with grades of up to 60%, as well as acceleration and top-speed trials. Powered by Cummins' Advanced Combat Engine (ACE) and SAPA’s ACT transmission, AMEP demonstrated significant advancements in fuel efficiency, cooling systems, and overall vehicle range. This marks a key milestone in our ongoing commitment to delivering cutting-edge mobility solutions for future combat vehicles. We are excited about the progress made and look forward to sharing more updates as testing continues. Stay tuned for further developments and check out the video of the testing. SAPA Showcases Latest Advancements in Mobility Technology and Power Generation and Control at FEINDEF 2023
Madrid, 17 of may 2023, – The third edition of the International Defense Exhibition (FEINDEF) opened its doors on May 17. As in previous editions, SAPA is once again present, showcasing its latest advancements in tracked and wheeled armored vehicle mobility technologies, as well as its onboard power generation and control systems. At the SAPA stand, the highlight was the ACT 850 (Advanced Combat Transmission), SAPA's most advanced transmission designed to provide unmatched mobility for tracked vehicles up to 55 tons. This version of the ACT 850 also incorporates, for the first time at Spanish Trade Fair FEINDEF , an electric power take-off (PTO), which allows the vehicle to be equipped with hybrid mobility if necessary, especially crucial for stealth missions where acoustic and thermal footprints are more significant. Additionally, SAPA presented its transmission for wheeled vehicles, the SW624, integrated into the powerpack of the Spanish Army's VCR Dragón. Alongside these systems, SAPA exhibited the various components that make up its Energy Generation System (SISGE), which is also part of the powerpack of the Spanish Army's 8x8 VCR Dragón. Moreover, this edition highlighted the presence of TESS DEFENCE, which had its own stand showcasing the new flagship of the Spanish Army's armored vehicles, the VCR Dragón. Various variants of the new ASCOD VAC vehicle were also on display at the TESS stand. The VAC, or Tracked Support Vehicle, is an improved version of the ASCOD platform. Last month, the program was approved, and €1.97 billion will be invested in acquiring these new armored vehicles, with the first model expected to start operating in 2027 and deliveries extending over a nine-year period. The first and most substantial improvement of the VAC is its enhanced mobility, protection, and load capacity, with a maximum combat mass exceeding 42 tons. The critical element of the vehicle's improved mobility is the new ACT 850 transmission developed by SAPA Placencia for vehicles up to 45 tons. The powerpack will definitely provide a greater output, with a hybrid propulsion system being a possible option if the Army requires it.
