Boosting applied research and university talent The research to be carried out at the Chair will address, among other aspects, the analysis of noise and vibration transmission, torsional stresses, transmission errors and cooling and lubrication conditions, which are essential for the optimum performance of transmission systems in demanding environments. In addition, an advanced test bench will be built to test the gears in real conditions, measure performance parameters and validate the design of these critical parts. With this agreement, SAPA reinforces its commitment to innovation and the development of talent in mobility technologies, contributing to the training of future engineers with experience in real-world problems.

SAPA stands out in the U.S. Army pavilion at the AUSA 2024 Expo
SAPA stands out in the U.S. Army pavilion at the AUSA 2024 Expo

Washington D.C., October 15, 2024 – The AUSA 2024 expo, organized by the Association of the United States Army (AUSA), one of the most prominent global events in the defense and security sector, is taking place in Washington D.C. this week and includes the presence of SAPA’s U.S. subsidiary, SAPA Transmission Inc. SAPA is showcasing its products at its own stand and in the official U.S. Army pavilion. SAPA is exhibiting the ACT850 transmission, designed for vehicles up to 50 tons, and the ACT1075, for vehicles up to 70 tons, paving the way for broader applications in military vehicles, including the future European Main Ground Combat System. By participating in this expo, which gathers military leaders, industry representatives, and professionals from around the world to discover the latest technological innovations in defense, SAPA continues to strengthen its position in this market. SAPA has been working closely with the U.S. Army Ground Vehicle Systems Center (GVSC) for more than a decade on developing next-generation mobility and transmission technologies. This strong partnership has enabled the development of advanced mobility systems (transmissions and powertrains), notably the ACT850, which has been tested under demanding conditions at Yuma and Camp Grayling, integrated into the AMEP (Advanced Mobility Experimental Prototype) vehicle. SAPA's participation in AUSA 2024 reflects the remarkable progress  within a sector dominated by industrial giants, as well as the trust it has earned in a highly competitive market like the United States. Visibility at a defense expo such as AUSA serves as a statement of strategic intent and positioning for industry experts. Every detail, from the size of the booth to its location, is part of a symbolic hierarchy. In this context, the U.S. Army displaying a private company’s product in its pavilion is a significant achievement, and the fact that this company is foreign makes it even more noteworthy.

Exciting Progress at Yuma Proving Grounds for the AMEP Program
Exciting Progress at Yuma Proving Grounds for the AMEP Program

We are thrilled to announce that the Advanced Mobility Experimental Prototype (AMEP) has recently completed successful testing at Yuma Proving Grounds, following last year’s achievements at Camp Grayling. In collaboration with the U.S. Army’s Ground Vehicle Systems Center (GVSC) and Cummins, this phase of testing has further validated our efforts to optimize AMEP’s powerpack and control systems to meet extreme mobility metrics. The rigorous testing at Yuma involved navigating challenging cross-country terrain with grades of up to 60%, as well as acceleration and top-speed trials. Powered by Cummins' Advanced Combat Engine (ACE) and SAPA’s ACT transmission, AMEP demonstrated significant advancements in fuel efficiency, cooling systems, and overall vehicle range. This marks a key milestone in our ongoing commitment to delivering cutting-edge mobility solutions for future combat vehicles. We are excited about the progress made and look forward to sharing more updates as testing continues. Stay tuned for further developments and check out the video of the testing.
