SAPA Leads the Development of Mobility with the VCR 8×8 Program

TESS Defence, the company formed by SAPA, Indra, Escribano, and General Dynamics Santa Bárbara, signed a contract with the Ministry of Defense yesterday for the supply of 348 8×8 Wheeled Combat Vehicles (VCR), with a total amount of 1.74 billion euros. This contract is the first of three phases for the 1,000 vehicles programmed by the Ministry of Defense.

With this agreement, the goal is to achieve a 70% national industry participation in the VCR 8×8’s development and production phase, manage and maintain the vehicle’s Design Authority, and ensure future lifecycle support. This project is designed with a clear export vocation, positioning the Spanish defense industry in a highly competitive market.

The wheeled armored vehicle acquisition program will renew the current BMR and VEC fleet of the Army, providing greater security and protection in its missions.

This development gives the national industry technological sovereignty over a strategic system, representing a priority factor in the defense sector for both domestic and international projection, fostering the development of indigenous technological industries.

SAPA will lead the mobility of the powerpack as well as the generation and management of onboard energy in the vehicles.
