Madrid, 21 December 2016 – The mechanical ensemble behind the mobility of the new Pizarro has been updated, replacing the MTU 8V 183 TE22 engine of 600 hp with the MTU 8V 199 TE20 engine of 710 hp, the same used by the Ulan, the Austrian “cousin” of the Pizarro, both developed under the ASCOD program. Additionally, the Renk transmission from the initial versions has been replaced by the new SAPA SG-850 transmission, noted for its advanced performance.
The first ten units of the Pizarro Phase II were delivered to the “Cantabria” I/6 Battalion of the “Saboya” No. 6 Infantry Regiment of the Extremadura XI Brigade based in Bótoa, Extremadura. These are the first deliveries of the planned batch of 117 vehicles for this second phase, a reduced number compared to the originally planned 212 vehicles intended to complement the 144 from Phase I.
