SAPA, a technological leader in heavy vehicle mobility, leads the SoNNMESyC Group’s industrial initiative aimed at driving innovation in electric and connected mobility. Effective collaboration between automotive integrators with Spanish headquarters is a key strategy for fostering innovation and the development of new solutions in the sector. Furthermore, the fact that major multinationals, global leaders in their respective electric vehicle components, have expressed interest in the project is a positive sign of its relevance and potential impact on the global sustainable mobility market.

Last January, the Ministry of Industry granted the SoNNMESyC consortium the final approval to carry out, in a collaborative manner, initiatives and investments focused on electric and connected mobility.

This is a highly ambitious initiative aimed at promoting electric and connected mobility in Spain. Collaboration between various technology companies and SMEs is an effective strategy for fostering innovation and the development of new production models in the automotive sector.

The commitment to the electrification of buses, medium-duty vehicles, and motorcycles used for last-mile delivery is a positive way to address the challenges of sustainable mobility and reduce polluting emissions in cities. This project represents the creation of 600 direct jobs and 2,000 induced jobs, providing a beneficial impact for the economy. Furthermore, highly skilled employment is especially important for promoting the development of an advanced technology sector in Spain.

The SoNNMESyC consortium’s proposal focuses on initiatives that cover the entire electric and connected vehicle value chain, from battery manufacturing to the powertrain and other systems such as smart charging, manufacturing process automation, and augmented reality.

These initiatives aim to catalyze public and private investment in a booming sector: electric and connected mobility. Reducing emissions from vehicles other than utility vehicles is one of the initiative’s main objectives and will contribute to the fight against climate change and the transition to a more sustainable and resilient economy. These are precisely the principles behind the consortium’s acronym: «Solutions to New Electric Mobility Needs based on Sustainability and Connectivity Criteria.»

The project has the consultancy firm INCOTEC as the promoter and coordinator of the proposal, and the collaboration of 21 companies, including industrial and technological partners, 13 of which are SMEs: Ausa, Urovesa, Castrosúa, Little Cars, Next Electric, Alterity, Itera, Mann+Hummel, Hidragrup, SAPA Placencia, MAHLE Electronics, IADA, GKN, Maflow, SMR, Inertim, Multiverse, CTC, Softeca, Lis DATA and ARSOFT. As it develops, it will leave its direct mark on eight Autonomous Communities: the Basque Country, Galicia, Cantabria, Aragon, Castilla la Mancha, Castilla y León, the Valencian Community and Catalonia.
